10 CURIOSITIES ABOUT SOCCER


1- Brazil is the country of football, right? Wrong. The real country of football is England, a country with 40,000 clubs. The number of clubs in Brazil is only 13,500, which does not give even half of it.

2- Who brought football to Brazil was a Brazilian son of Englishmen named Charles Miller. He brought two balls and a manual with the rules of the game from a trip to England.

3- The first soccer game in Brazil was played on April 14, 1989, in São Paulo. The detail is that the two teams were formed by Englishmen living in the country.

4- Founded in 1895, the Flamengo team is the oldest in Brazil. Vasco was born in 1898; the Fluminense in 1902; the Guild in 1903; Botafogo in 1904 and Atlético-MG in 1908.

5- The public record in a soccer match took place on August 31, 1969, when the match between Brazil and Paraguay for the World Cup qualifiers had 183,341 payers.

6- The first World Cup took place in Uruguay. The tournament had 9 teams from America and 4 from Europe. Other European countries did not want to participate because of travel costs. The champion was Uruguay. Brazil ranked sixth.

7- Pelé was the youngest player to win a Cup. He was only 17 years old when Brazil won the title in 1958.

8- The biggest thrashing in the history of Brazilian football occurred in May 1990, when Botafogo beat Madureira 24-0.

9- The player with the largest number of games in the Brazilian Championship was goalkeeper Rogério Ceni who, until the end of 2014, played 517 matches.

10- Founded in 1910, Corinthians is the oldest team in São Paulo. The second oldest is the Santos, which emerged in 1912. Palmeiras was founded in 1914 and the São Paulo team in 1935.
