Success in social networks, memes can also teach.
Researchers and teachers talk about using Internet language applied to education.
With quick messages and a touch of humor, memes have come out of social networks to conquer a new space: the classroom. When it comes to preparing "that lesson you respect" and resting with "the serenity in the eyes of those who take advantage of what #BombouNaRede to teach", as the popular internet language would say, digital culture has become an ally of teachers to attract attention of students and work concepts from different disciplines.

In June, a photo of a Portuguese exam at Escola Móbile in São Paulo (SP) was successful on social networks by bringing a question with a meme about crase. The publication, shared by the Menes Web site, reached more than 17,000 interactions on Facebook and 161 retweets on Twitter. Shortly before, a professor from Belo Horizonte (MG) had also gained prominence on the internet after using photos of Gretchen, known as the queen of memes, to deliver the grades. The publication shared by one student came to have 27,809 retweets.

"Originally speaking, the concept of meme is related to an idea or cultural phenomenon that persists through time. When taken to the internet, it becomes an ephemeral phenomenon, "explains Professor Viktor Chagas, from the Department of Cultural Studies and Media at the Fluminense Federal University, where he also currently coordinates the #MUSEUdeMEMES.

Although memes are known for their humorous nature, the professor at the Fluminense Federal University also says that in recent years, a set of social content and demands began to circulate through social networks. "We managed to identify that, because of our context, we had a production of political memes that are not necessarily associated with humor," he cites. As examples, he also points to productions that discuss feminism and the racial question through this language.

After presenting the "Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen" and the "Constitution of the Federative Republic of Brazil," the teacher asked the students to create memes that denounced the inequalities. "When I told them they were going to make a meme, they thought it was a joke to make fun of. Young people have an understanding that the meme needs to be funny, but that's not all. He has to have a quick message, "he says. And for those who think that it is only possible to use memes with contents of human subjects, a research done by Professor Paulo Gonçalo Farias Gonçalves, from the Federal University of Cariri in Juazeiro do Norte (CE), showed that mathematics can also benefit from this language. After analyzing ten pages of mathematics education on Facebook, the teacher identified that memes can be used to construct statements of questions, present challenges, instigate discussions about pedagogical, historical and philosophical formation of the discipline and also help in the memorization of formulas or concepts . "I realized that math memes bring a lot of trivia and entertainment issues, but they are not always associated with a funny fact. They can also be used to depict various contents, such as algebra, geometry and arithmetic, "he says.
