Weather in the idiomatic expressions.

This is our last publication 😔 and it will be about a cool subject: weather! Yeah! You’ll learn how you can use the weather in your dialogs!

Under the weather: É uma expressão usada quando você não está se sentindo bem.
Ex.: I’m not going to work today, I’m feeling under the weather, I think I’ve got the flu.

Snowed under: Você pode usar essa expressão quando tiver muitas coisas para fazer.
Ex.: Oh, dear, I would love to help you, but I’m completely snowed under at the moment.

Head in the clouds: Expressão em inglês que nós também usamos em Português quando estamos distraídos, com a “cabeça nas nuvens”, ou quando temos idéias irrealistas.
Ex.: Is Marcela in love? I see her walking around all day with her head in the clouds.

Lightning fast: Usada para expressar rapidez.
Ex.: Wow! Did you watch the F1  grand-prix last Sunday? Felipe Massa won and he was lightning fast.

Chase rainbows: Expressão usada quando uma pessoa está tentando alcançar o impossível.
Ex.: “He’s trying to become a diplomat but I think he’s chasing rainbows.”

 

Storm in a teacup: Essa expressão é muito usada em português, a famosa expressão: Tempestade em copo d’água.
Ex.: I believe this is just a storm in a teacup – there’s no danger to public health.

Face like thunder: Expressão usada quando uma pessoa está claramente brava ou chateada.
Ex.: When my wife is really angry, she has a face like thunder.

Raining cats and dogs: Expressão em inglês usada quando está chovendo muito.
Ex.: “The weather is really awful outside.
It’s windy and is raining cats and dogs.”
